As a key component of a UPS, battery’s service life is highly connected to UPS’s reliability. Excess charge is known to be a key driver leading to battery’s premature wear-out. Intelligent charging management is a technology to extend the life of lead-acid batteries by applying sophisticated logic to the charging management.

Instead of charging a fully-charged battery continuously like other UPS do (i.e. floating charge), intelligent charging gives a periodic rest period with natural discharge, and provides charge current only at certain intervals.

Studies show that charging with the rest period can effectively prolong battery’s service life for few years (depending on the loading and frequency of discharge) and result in significant saving on service labor and maintenance cost.
