PowerMaster communication failure and HID detection

Ostatnio odświeżony 6 lata temu
Summary

Models working with PowerMaster, like VI R1U or VI STL may fail to be detected by the software or may not be detected as the battery in the OS if a wrong driver is selected.

HID detection (the battery icon)

A driver detected by default may not be the correct one to allow operating the UPS with OS's Power Management (the battery icon).
  1. Connect the UPS via USB to PC and turn it on
  2. Click start and type "Bluetooth and other devices settings", press enter to open
  3. Verify that UPS was detected under "Other devices", typically it just shows the rating, i.e. "1000" or "600".
    1. You can disconnect and connect the USB cable to verify if the device is added
  4. Click start and type "Device Manager", press enter to open (admin rights are necessary, see below)
  5. Under "Batteries" you will see a device, most likely described as "Battery Backup", but automatic detection may differ
  6. Right-click and choose "Update driver", then follow:
    1. Browse my computer for driver software
    2. Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
    3. Choose "HID UPS Battery" on the list and click "Next"
    4. You should see immediately the battery icon to appear in the system tray
    5. If you don't see the battery icon, restart the PC to let the drivers load again
  7. Now it is possible to manage the UPS without an additional software. Communication with PowerMaster will not work!
PowerMaster communication

Normally a default driver assigned by OS should allow PowerMaster to communicate with the UPS, but if detection failed or if it was changed before it is necessary to restore it.
  5. Under "Batteries" you will see a device, most likely described as "HID UPS Battery", but automatic detection may differ
  6. Right-click and choose "Properties", then tab "Driver"
  7. Click "Roll Back Driver" and confirm
  8. Restart of the PC is necessary to see the change!
  9. Now it is possible to manage the UPS with PowerMaster. The UPS will be no longer detected as the battery in the system tray.
Administrator rights for device manager

Accessing "Device Manager" requires administrator rights. If you don't have such rights on your PC, but you know the password, you can run the device manager in the following way:
  1. Click start and type "cmd"
  2. You will see "command prompt" application on the list, right-click it and choose "Run as administrator"
  3. Now you need to provide login and password of an account with administrator rights
  4. The console opened has the ability to open applications as administrator
  5. Type "devmgmt.msc" and press enter
  6. You can now edit drivers as administrator
